PHOTOGRAPHER TOURS SHELTERS TO HELP DOGS GET ADOPTED - “Our mission is to provide shelter staff and volunteers with the resources to successfully groom and photograph shelter pets, helping give them the second chance they deserve.”
The One Picture Saves a Life initiative teaches animal shelters how to groom and photograph the shelter animals to present them in the best light (probably both literally and figuratively) for adoption. Photographer Seth Casteel is currently touring various shelters in the U.S. to put on workshops. You may be familiar with Casteel’s Underwater Dogs series. The photos above are examples of how different the dogs look depending on how they are presented.
In addition to Casteel, John Paul Pet, The Animal Rescue Site, GreaterGood.org, and the Petfinder Foundation are all partners in this endeavor. Click here to learn more about One Picture Saves a Life. You can also donate to this cause by clicking here. (Photos from One Picture Saves a Life)
This is so important! I almost want to volunteer to come to shelters with my Nikon. The picture of my kitten that I got from the shelter’s website was so awful. I wouldn’t have picked her based off that. Luckily I went in and met the cats in person. In the photo she was terrified and backed in a corner, and it was in black and white.
She is one of the cutest cats I’ve ever seen and has big blue eyes and is super playful and energetic and sweet. You couldn’t see ANY of that from the photo :(I am tearing up! I just can’t! The second to last dog looks like slug!
Plus, that smile at the bottom <3

You say that you’ll always keep me safe.
But for me to be safe and healthy and happy, I need to know that you’re safe too.
Please don’t hurt yourself anymore :(
@5 days ago with 1 noteThe house is coming together so well. Now that we’re all moved out of the dorms, this place is finally starting to feel like home. We mowed our lawn together yesterday, my first time mowing a lawn! Woooooo. We have a garden we planted ourselves. We make and eat breakfast together. It’s pretty fucking sweet.
I did a bunch of random cleaning/arranging today. Once I paint the desk I got fo freee, my room will be complete.
Also, all my roommates are wearing my clothes today to assorted social functions; I think that finally means I’m trendy!
Maria and my brother and his girlfriend are coming over!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jack and Bob and Jesse were over yesterday, and Rachel came and visited last week. Friends (including housemates, of course!) are a really, really cool thing.
